Iceland: Country and People (A. V. Pavlovskaya)

The article reveals geographical position, climate conditions, natural landscape of Iceland and their impact on the lifestyle of the Icelanders. Being close to nature and living in extreme natural conditions contributed to the development of the spirit of freedom, respect for the environment, environmental consciousness, endurance and stamina.

It is noted that the Icelanders are known for their characteristic mythological consciousness (despite the official Christianization) and reverence for the word (Icelandic folklore is one of the most distinctive and rich). Geographic isolation and population homogeneity influenced the character of social relations, the main features of which are mutual help and consensus decision-making.

Keywords: Iceland, Icelanders, natural landscape, sagas, paganism.
